Before you start
Have read access to the source ready: for a cloud, that is read-only API credentials; for VMware, access to vCenter. Migrate only reads the source, but it needs to be able to see the machines and their disks.
Run a migration
- Open Migrate and choose New Migration.
- Select the source (for example VMware, AWS, Azure or GCP) and provide the read-only access details.
- Migrate inventories the source and lists the machines it can move. Choose the ones you want and the region to land them in.
- Start the job. Disks are copied, converted, and booted here as Cloud Servers.
What to expect
One conversion runs at a time, so a batch is a queue rather than everything at once. Larger disks take longer. You can close the tab and come back; the job keeps running. A migrated server that boots is not always reachable yet: our hardening can block password SSH on fresh Linux images, so if you cannot get in, use a key or reset access rather than assuming the migration failed.
Ingress is free, so bringing workloads in does not cost you data transfer. You pay only for the Cloud Servers once they are running.
